This new mode is perfect for private queries, brainstorming new ideas, or exploring topics that you prefer not to be retained. To start a Temporary Chat, users simply select the “Temporary Chat” icon next to “New Chat”—a simple toggle to keep conversations ephemeral.

Personal Context: Smarter AI That Remembers What Matters

Gemini now also features Personal Context, an advancement that allows the AI to remember key details from your past chats to offer more relevant, tailored responses. Enabled by default but optional, this feature helps save time by avoiding repeated explanations. For example, Gemini can recall personal preferences, past projects, or specific details like favorite recipes or pet names, making interactions flow naturally.

Users who prefer not to have their data remembered can easily disable this option in the app settings, balancing convenience with privacy preferences.

  • New controls also apply to audio, video, and screen shares shared with Gemini, defaulting to off, with the option to enable.
